COVID-19 Update

The LTA has published advice to clubs which currently indicates that playing tennis is still an “acceptable activity”. There are some caveats regarding social distancing and links to other official websites. These are all detailed in the guidance which can be accessed here

All league tennis matches have been postponed until 30/9/20 and all relevant bookings have been removed from the system. If members wish to play a friendly game at the club, then please just book courts as usual.

If you choose to play, please follow all the LTA guidance and also restrict your use of the pavilion to the bare minimum, thus reducing the risk of infection spread through surface contact.

Under the circumstances, we also advise that Club Night should be capped at 12 players so that no-one is spending periods of time in close proximity to other non-playing members. The club tournaments and socials planned for April 10th and May 8th will all be postponed with a hope that we can reconvene at a later date in the year.

There has been no official announcement yet about the 2020 Wimbledon Championships, but there must now be a huge doubt that they will still take place when originally planned. Other major tournaments have been rescheduled and if Wimbledon follows suit, we would still anticipate holding our annual ballot for tickets later in the year.

In the same spirit as the theatres requesting patrons not to request ticket refunds for cancelled shows, may I urge all members to renew their annual subscription before the prompt payment deadline of 30th April. The club relies on the annual membership subscription to cover operational costs, in particular the upkeep of the courts which this year will include a monthly maintenance programme by our contractor to sustain good levels of court performance – without your support, we have no club!

Finally, please do not hesitate to contact me, or any committee member, if you have any queries or concerns. I trust that we can all act responsibly to help reduce the spread of infection and look forward to seeing some light at the end of the tunnel in due course. In the meantime, please stay safe, wash your hands and keep your distance!

Thanks Jane
