Our Coaches

Derek Rogers is the Head Coach and he is assisted by Alan Coulthard – they are both licensed by the LTA.  The Club offers both private and group tuition. Membership is not required for coaching sessions but coaching is offered at a reduced rate to club members.   Non members may attend coaching sessions but they are not eligible to represent the Club in competitive matches.

I have been coaching full-time for 25 years and at Chelmsfordians for 15 years. I am an LTA licensed coach qualified to Senior Club Coach Award level. I am a former Captain of the Essex mens Over 45s and still regularly represent Essex in that squad.

Following a change in career in 2005, I qualified as an LTA licensed coach at Development Coach Award level.  I coach mostly within Derek’s junior and adult programmes but I also give individual lessons and I run adult groups at Pleshey Tennis Club.  I have been a member of OCA for 35 years.

Juniors

During term times, there are fourteen junior after-school classes each week covering all age groups from Mini-Red up to Year 13.

We also run junior holiday courses in the main Easter and summer holidays as well as the May and October half-terms.

Ladies

We run Ladies’ coaching groups on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30 am to 11.00 am with a maximum of twelve players per session.


Adult Improvers Group

Thursdays 7:15 – 8:15 pm

Special Coaching Days for Ladies

Additionally, Derek and Alan run regular ‘Ladies’ Coaching Days’  which last for 5 hours and include technical drills, video analysis, lunch and a tournament.
